In 1971 two young teenagers met somehow someway. Was it fate for them to meet that day? Some might say yes, some might say no. 9 months later out came little Joe. My mother actually named me Joey, I was born in Shakopee, MN. on June 3rd 1972. Several years later both Dad and Mom gave their lives to Jesus and were married on March 13th 1976.
I spent most of my childhood and teenage years growing up in Oregon, under the guiding influence of my parents. There is so much I am thankful for now as an adult in how and where my brother and I were raised. What an awesome job my parents did with what they had to provide a safe and loving home for Alan and I. We learned so much from Mom during the days when dad was at work and mom was home with us. Being boys and all, I think we learned a little more all those early Saturday mornings we spent with dad on the banks of the North Umpqua River or in the woods of the Cascade Mountains. THANK YOU! Mom and Dad for all your sacrifice.
We moved back to the Midwest in 1987, first to Milwaukee for a year and then back to Minneapolis in 1988. The last two years of High School were pretty much uneventful. Except, I did meet the sweetest and best looking girl ever. I knew from the second I saw her that she would be the one I would marry. I had my life planned out. I was going to marry Jenni, have two kids, 1 boy and 1 girl, work for the family business and live happily ever after. How naive we are at the age of 17. After High School my life started out in the direction stated above, Jenni and I were married On February 12th, 1993. We were trying to start a family and I was working for the family business, but we were far from happily ever after.
August 26th, 1996 changed the course of our lives forever. My little brother was killed in a construction accident in Duluth, MN. The physical death of my brother was one of the most devastating things that has ever happened to me in my young adult life. Alan dying left me feeling empty and with a question about life that I could not answer, WHY? In August of 1996 I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ. The same Jesus my parents gave their lives to 20 years earlier. Both my brother and I grew up in a strong Christian home where the Love and Forgiveness of God was talked about quite often. This relationship with Jesus gave me the strength and answers I needed. This relationship with Jesus helped Jenni and I rebuild or marriage and start a family with a renewed direction of how we wanted to live life. We have five, yes five beautiful children, 4 boys and 1 girl and are grateful for God’s Goodness in our lives everyday.
I knew shortly after coming back to the Lord that God had a work for me to do in ministry. I just did not know what, where, when and how. In 2003 God called us to Three Rivers Church where I was on staff as an Assistant and Youth Pastor. My primary ministry oversight was in Youth Ministry, Home Groups and AV. I have been licensed and ordained through the Association of Faith Churches and Ministers (AFCM) since 2004.
I will end with this, it is only by God’s Grace through Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that has brought me to this point in my life. From the early days when my parents committed themselves to the Lord Jesus and His will, to the day that Jenni and I had to make that same commitment for ourselves. It is only through a relationship with Jesus Christ that we can fully live a life of eternal value here on this earth. It is my desire to encourage people toward that relationship with a Loving and Forgiving God Who desires a relationship with them through His Son Jesus Christ.
UPDATE: Five years has past since this post was first published. In 2014 God called Jenni and I out of where we were, and into the continuation of the ministry He has placed in our hearts. We stepped out in faith with several other families and began a church plant in Prior Lake Minnesota. For more information on this please visit our Church website here.
God Bless You.
